Let’s face it, Bude is a popular place and since the lockdown restrictions were eased, it’s been very, very busy! Because we are fortunate enough to be able to enjoy the coast all year round, on a sunny, busy weekend we are more inclined to avoid the hotspots and use our local knowledge for a more peaceful experience!
One recent such weekend, we took a short, (two miles each way) walk from home to visit ‘All the Ps‘ tea garden near Stratton, for a late breakfast. There is a little bit of road walking at either end of the walk but once on the public footpaths, we hardly saw a single soul until we arrived at the tea garden.
Lovely old postbox at on the junction of Poughill Road with ‘Donkey Lane’, a rough track that leads down to Maer. After about one-third of a mile, the footpath is opposite this lovely house, Beulah. So if you walk past this, you’ve gone too far!The start of the public footpath opposite Beaulah. The field is a meadow in late spring.Wildflowers everywhere but the trees were very, very late to leaf this year.Nearly down to the first stream at Hollabury. On the rough track from Hollabury to Stamford Hill.‘Paize’ country house.Broomhill Manor Stables. https://www.facebook.com/BroomhillManorStables/The Roundhouse at BroomhillAfter crossing the Poughill to Stratton Road is the gate leading to the field where the Battle of Stratton was fought in 1643. http://www.battlefieldstrust.com/resource-centre/civil-war/battleview.asp?BattleFieldId=44The Battle of Stratton Memorial. http://www.battlefieldstrust.com/resource-centre/civil-war/battleview.asp?BattleFieldId=44The start of Stamford Hill WoodsFinlay loves the woods!!There’s a heady aroma of bluebells and wild garlic in the springtime!A friendly local shows the way.Fun for the whole family!!Now Finlay’s happy! It’s two miles each way.
It’s been an incredibly busy year for us at the Beach Haven this year and, at the time of writing, the only remaining availability in 2021 is for the two weeks before Christmas. Next year too is looking to be a similar story with 13 weeks already booked. We’d really advise booking ASAP to avoid disappointment. As ever, you can see real-time availability from our online booking system here.
