We are, of course, proudly anchored in Cornwall but we are only about 5 miles from the Devon border so we are perfectly located as a base to explore north Devon too. Hartland Quay, just 14 miles up the coast has just been used as a location for a new feature film of the Du Maurier classic ‘Rebecca’.
It will star Lily James (who also filmed close by for the film ‘the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society‘), Keeley Hawes, Kristin Scott-Thomas and Armie Hammer.
Filming took place at the Quay last week and it had been transformed into an 1940s time-warp! They had also built a little cottage, ‘Mandalay’, on the slip, only to burn it down on the last day of filming!
We highly recommend a visit to Hartland Quay even when there’s no filming! There’s an excellent pub, ‘The Wreckers Retreat‘ a museum, shop and a small beach at the bottom of the slip. It’s a lovely spot for a bit of lunch or an al-fresco dinner in the summer evening sunshine.
Here are a few photos of the scenes.
