At the going down of the sun

My dad was a veteran of the Second World War and served in the 8th Army. He passed away in 2013 in his 100th year so I though this to be a perfect opportunity to remember him and honour his colleagues by using his campaign medals which I wear with pride on Remembrance Sunday. The famous […]

Looking forward to your Cornwall holiday in 2017?

The year is nearly over and it’s now the traditional time to plan next year’s holidays! We’ve had a lovely year in Cornwall in 2016. Inevitably there was the odd bad week but by and large the weather really did deliver. September and October were been fabulous – as they often are.  Here at The Beach Haven, we had a record year […]

When your day goes off with a bang

We’ve had a glorious October so far, which is not that unusual. I remember a number of ‘beach days’ In October  in the last few years and last year we had a few days when the temperature was in the 20s! Yesterday was another glorious day – albeit with a chilly easterly breeze. Maria and I […]

Approaching the end of the season

Well, there’s only another month or so left of the main season before we have an opportunity to go in to do some maintenance and various improvements to The Beach Haven. Earlier this year we introduced a feedback form for guests to fill in before they depart. This helps us find out what we do […]

Bude Lifeboat Day – August Bank Holiday

Without a doubt, Bude Lifeboat Day is the single best day of the year in Bude for activity, buzz and a feel-good factor. The luck of the RNLI also blesses us with good weather nine times out of ten. The RNLI organise a host of activities and attractions – too many to list – but […]

Multi-generation family holidays

We have many multi-generation family holidays staying at The Beach Haven. With four bedrooms giving plenty of privacy and being one one level means much easier access for those with limited mobility. Our current age record-holder is Ken who was 99 at the time of his stay! We’re pleased to say he’s still going strong at 101! At […]

Driftwood

There has been a lot of rubbish washed up on our beaches this summer. The same amount we’d normally get after winter storms. Some bits are more attractive than others! This lovely piece of driftwood, washed up at Black Rock beach, was stranded there on the spring tides. I returned a couple of days later, armed […]

The Garden at Midsummer

The garden at The Beach Haven is definitely at it’s best in late spring and early summer. Maria loves her Old English roses and they’re now in full bloom in the front and back gardens. After mowing the lawns on Saturday morning, I thought I’d point the camera a few – and the multi-coloured hydrangeas at […]

The Cornish Cream Tea

All you wanted to know about a cream tea but were afraid to ask! The Cornish Cream Tea is truly a thing of splendour but, unwittingly, you could be munching your way through a minefield! Why? Well because both the Cornish and Devon folk claim it as there own. Sadly, of course, the Devon folk are […]

High Tide at Trebarwith Strand

Trebarwith Strand is a lovely little spot about 20 minutes drive down the coast from The Beach Haven. At low tide there is a wonderful, wide beach and at high tide it looks like this! The Port William pub sits just to the right of this video and there aren’t many better spots to eat […]

A gorgeous sunset!

Few words are needed for this really. A short video from the sea pool of the sun setting tonight – and a cameo from a returning fishing boat.

Heavy swells on a spring day in north Cornwall

A couple of scenes from a lovely walk from Rocky Valley, along the cliffs past Bossiney and Tintagel to ‘Dunder Hole’ and the location of Tintagel YHA. There was a heavy swell just before the arrival of storm ‘Katie’.
